What a beautiful day for a walk!
The BUGS (and the whole EE) went for a walk - er...RUN! this afternoon in the sunshine to raise money for the school.
The kids did lap after lap while laughing, smiling and singing to the music!
Thanks to all our pledgers who supported our kids in the Prowl and all the helpers and parents who were there to support the event!
These BUGS really know how to PROWL!! Great job, BUGS!
IT'S EASY AND SALES-PITCH FREE! You fill out minimal information, drive the car of your choice around the block, complete a very short survey and you're done! You get to choose what classroom will receive Ford's $20 for your test drive! (You may split the donation between two classrooms if you'd like!) I have been the EE Chairperson for this event for the past couple of years and have loved this fundraiser because it costs parents nothing at all. The only sales information you will receive will be a couple of postcards/flyers in the mail after the event. No one calls, no one pressures you at the event, it is so easy you won't believe it. Whether you like Ford or not, this is a great way for our classrooms to get much needed funding for technology, books, new software, field trips, etc. without it coming from the parents - who already do so much!!
Think of what our classroom could do with $20 per household!! Invite grandparents, neighbors and friends to come along and drive as well!
Tomorrow (Saturday, September 28th) from 8am - ? (until 2 or until we get 300 drivers, so come early!)
I will be at the event all day and would love to see all of you there! If you have any questions, please call or email me!!
*You must be 18 or older with a valid license to test drive. One donation per household address. No child seats permitted in vehicles, but I am on hand to babysit while you drive!!

As we begin to learn about what makes a great author, it helps to notice all the details authors use in their writing. We're reading Charlotte's Web together and we noticed this great description in Chapter 10 where Mr. White (the author) describes a swing with such amazing details we could see it in our minds! To put our imaginations (and Mr. White's description) to the test, we decided to be the illustrators and try to draw the picture just from the description in the text. Here is the text we worked from:
“Mr. Zuckerman had the best swing in the country. It was a single long piece of heavy rope tied to the beam over the north doorway. At the bottom end of the rope was a fat knot to sit on. It was arranged so that you could swing without being pushed. You climbed a ladder to the hayloft. Then, holding the rope, you stood at the edge and looked down, and were scared and dizzy. Then you straddles the knot, so that it acted as a seat. Then you go up all your nerve, took a deep breath, and jumped. For a second you seemed to be falling to the barn floor far below, but then suddenly the rope would begin to catch you, and you would said through the barn door going a mile a minute, with the wind whistling in your eyes and ears and hair. Then you would zoom upward into the sky, and look up at the clouds and the rope would twist and you would twist and turn with the rope. Then you would drop down, down, down, out of the sky and come sailing back into the barn almost into the hayloft, then sail out again (not quite so far this time), then in again (not quite so high), then out again, then in again, then out, then in; and then you’d jump off and fall down and let somebody else try it.”
- E.B. White, Charlotte’s Web
The kids did an amazing job! Look at all the details they captured in their pictures! Here are just a few of the illustrations they created! (To see the rest, stop by our room. They are hanging in the hallway!)

Spanish students sang our 'Buenos Dias' song all on their own! They used their vocabulary and active hand gestures to help them remember and perform the song!
¡Buen trabájo a todos!
