At Dutch Village, we learned about the Golden Angel Organ and how it plays music.

We learned how to Dutch dance...
...and how they made wooden shoes (and why!)
The kids tried out the one room school house (no one got sent to the corner).
 There were bunnies to hold...
...and ponies to ride.
What a great day to be at Dutch Village!
Thanks to all our chaperones and to PTO for funding another great field trip.

Mrs.Koehn is the best teacher in the whole wide world because she is funny and makes up wackadoodle names for us. Her classroom theme is B.U.G.S it stands for Bright, Unique, Generous, Students It seems like every word in my classroom has to do with bugs like Every-buggy,Resposi-bug-ities and bee-havior chart.I have lots of friends that are bright unique generous students! by Emma K.

A story by Maya:

Once upon a time there lived a boy and a girl. The boy name was jared and the girl name was Ellen. jared and Ellen loved to play together.
one day there mother sent them on a scary adventure to take apples to their grandma’s house. They went in the woods and met a wolf.
the wolf said”hi there” then Ellen said
“we are not supposed to talk stranger’’
  ‘’ I’m not a stranger I’m a friend of your mom.
They both said “ you are”
the wolf said ‘’I’ll lead you to my house for a snack” when they arrived at his house...aaaaaaaahhhhh they both screamed because his house looked creepy and because he ate them both up mmm tasty and the wolf lived happly ever after but not the kids.

Today we got to go to the Van Buren County Youth Fair for Agricultural Awareness Day.  This was an amazing day for the second graders!  We were able to learn so much about farm animals, farm safety, horticulture, fire safety and more!  We are all so grateful to Mrs. Butler for arranging this field trip and for the PTO and the Early Elementary for making this a FREE trip for all second graders!
There were baby goats (only three weeks old!)

We learned how to spot situations on a farm that could lead to accidents.

How many can you spot in this picture?

There were roosters and black silkie hens to pet.

We learned how to care for rabbits and what the judges would look for if we wanted to show them at the fair.

We learned how to prevent wildfires and important tips on fire safety at home.

We got to touch a coyote hide ...

...as well as a boar's head, a mounted deer head, antlers and we looked at a black bear and fish.

Emma tried on the antlers.

There were piglets, being fattened up for the fair.  They need to gain 200 pounds in less than two months!

We tried to guess the weight of the steer.  And we talked about what we eat that comes from cows and pigs. (Prestyn was hoping there was bacon in our take-home bags!)

This steer weighed 850 pounds!

There were baby calves that were oooh so soft!

And sleepy!

We practiced milking a diary cow.  Make sure you get it in the bucket!

We learned the difference between a draft horse and a riding horse.
This draft horse, Richard, was 19 hands high!

Jasper, a riding horse wasn't quite so big.

We planted our own cherry tomato plants from little sprouts the Ag students had planted a month ago.

We had a great day at Ag Day!
Thanks to all the FFA and 4H students for being awesome teachers today!

I hope all the mother's, grandmother's and any one who is rockin' the role of mother had a great Mother's Day!  The BUGS were awesome at keeping a secret for THREE MONTHS!  We planted seeds in February and we watched them sprout and grow!  We were a little disappointed that we didn't have any flowers before we took them home for Mother's Day, but we know that they will bloom under the care of our loving moms!

Just for you on your special day,A little something just to say,How much I love you, how much I care,How much better my life is because you are there. Just like me, this little plant will grow,With a little love and rain just so.We’ll both grow stronger and given time,Our lives will blossom and start to shine. You’ve raised me well, you’ve loved me deep.I love to learn, to question and seek! I’m bright and unique, generous too –A lucky B.U.G. to have a mom like you! Happy Mother’s Day! From your little B.U.G.

Zoie was the first in our class to reach 100 AR points!
She is always reading and always on the computer taking a comprehension quiz about the books she reads!
We are all so proud of Zoie and all of her hard work!
(As Maya said, "I'm so excited, I think I'm going to cry!")

In addition to another AR button and a medal for reaching 100 points, Zoie and Mrs. Koehn will go to lunch together next week to celebrate!

Congratulations, Zoie!
