As a teacher, I always think the visual lesson helps tremendously!  If you are stuck on the homework tonight, or are wondering about the "make a ten" strategy, I made a short little video that hopefully helps to explain the process as well as the "Why do we learn it this way?"  You can view the video here:

If you still have questions or concerns, I'm always willing to help!!

The first week of school is full of pre-tests, learning classroom and school procedures and working together to establish some classroom rules.  We did our best to make it all fun, while still learning and creating a community together!

We played a Student Search game where we got to know more about our classmates.

We found students who had gone out of state over the summer, who have pets at home and who have other siblings!

We also learned our first math game - Addition War!

This game was so much fun we forgot we were practicing our math facts!

Who knew playing War could be so much fun?

I cannot believe how fast the first day goes!  The calendar says it's a half day, but it feels like twenty minutes at the most!

What a wonderful first day we had today!  We have a GREAT group of B.U.G.S. in Room 18 and we are all excited about the new school year.

Thank you to everyone who so generously sent in school supplies for students and the classroom!  My cabinets are overflowing!

My favorite day of the whole year!  Everyone should have a day when they get to meet 25 new friends and see a colorful new classroom!  I love meeting all the families that I will spend this school year with (as well as seeing familiar faces from past years as well!)  Thanks to everyone who stopped by last night to visit and laugh!

Madelynn, Danielle and Devin

Sean, Judah, Devin, Grant and Jacob

Nathan, Spencer and Jayden

Caleb and Abby

Blake, Carter and Evan

Tyler (a BUG from a couple years ago!) and Ava

I know I missed a couple along the way, but I hope you all had as much fun as I did!
 See you on Tuesday!

Welcome B.U.G.S.!  I am so excited to get this school year started.  Are you excited about being a second grader this year?

I can't wait to meet you!  I hope you are able to attend Open House this Thursday from 5:30-7:00.  Feel free to bring school supplies at that time if you want to (it's easier when you have parents to help you carry sometimes!)

Our classroom is Room 18 at the Early Elementary.  We are the FURTHEST classroom from the office!  Head to the cafeteria but turn left just before you get there!  At the end of that short hallway, turn left again and you'll see our classroom!

The first day of school is Tuesday, September 8th.  The first day is a half day with dismissal at 12:30.  I will provide a snack for you on the first day, but you will need to pack your own snack each day for the rest of the year.  :)

If you or your parents have any questions, you can always email me at aekoehn@ppps.org.

I can't wait to meet each of you!  See you Thursday!
