For our unit on plants, today we were learning about the function of roots.
We talked about how roots help bring food and nutrients to the leaves and fruits of a plants and how the roots help hold a plant in the ground so it doesn't fall over.

We decided the BEST thing scientists could do when discussing roots was to actually LOOK at some roots! We didn't think one of our classroom plants would mind too much if we gently took it out of the pot so we could see what roots look like!

We were really surprised at how BIG the roots are for this plant and what they felt like!
We had so much fun learning about roots today!
(Do not be surprised if we ask for a shovel when we get home tonight!)

Addison and Kit both earned the candy bar of their choice for getting a perfect 100 on their addition facts!  They have been working so hard to be able to fluently add! This skill helps them solve math problems faster and to dedicate their thinking to higher-order portions of problems rather than the more basic computational part!
Awesome work, girls!!
