Today we said goodbye to our butterflies, too!  They have been out of their chrysalises since Saturday and need to spread their wings and FLY!!

We took them outside, opened up the butterfly house and....nothing.  We had to prompt them to leave and even then only one flew away!  (We think they know there is a storm coming!)

This is what our painted ladies look like up close!
We are going to try to release them again later on.
Hopefully they will be ready to fly!

Today our chicks are going to their "forever" home.
We have so enjoyed learning about the life cycle of chickens through this hands-on process!

We will miss listening to them chirp...

...but we know they need more space to grow!

Goodbye chicks!

To learn about the importance of bees and butterflies and birds in the pollination process, we made flowers of our own today.  The girls put cotton balls on their flowers and the boys put Cheetos.

We flew and fluttered around the room, from blossom to blossom, landing here and there on flowers we came to.

In the end we could see how we all were "pollinators" of Cheeto-cheese from one flower to another!

As much as we hate bee stings, we learned how important they are to our fruits, vegetables and flowers!  (If you look in the blueberry fields right now, many of them have brought in bee hives to help the blueberry bushes pollinate!!)

On Saturday, four of the butterflies emerged from their chrysalises and the last one came out on Sunday!  We are so excited to see our painted lady butterflies!  You can see in the background of this picture the red color that spills out of each chrysalis when the butterflies emerge.  This is not butterfly blood, but it is a liquid that is part of their development.
We will be setting the butterflies free this afternoon! What an amazing metamorphosis!

Who doesn't love a brand new book?

The BUGS were sure grateful to PTO today for their new books!

They carefully chose the perfect book...

...and couldn't wait to start reading!!

This morning we were very surprised this morning to see five chicks already out of their eggs and waiting for us to arrive at school!
These guys were already dry and ready to move to the brooder!

Throughout our day, three more hatched.

This little guy just came out of his shell a few minutes ago!

We are having such a wonderful day with baby chicks!
